Carbon dioxide Not just for dinosaurs

You’re next stupid human

We’ve heard about it for years. Too much Greenhouse gases, increased CO2, (carbon dioxide) or maybe a comet caused the demise of the dinosaurs. Could this be our fate?

Maybe, but why are we rushing things by wearing face masks designed with who knows what? Cloth, plastic, nylon, you name it, I’ve seen it all and so have you.

There has been no real science behind the public wearing masks during the COVID pandemic. At first we were told no worries, it won’t help. That was a lie; they just didn’t have enough on hand because certain Countries were hoarding them while they hid the virus from us all. Then it was, ok the health care providers need them most but even we could not get them in quantities to use them correctly. You know, one use and throw away. Now we are being told that you might be shamed if you go into certain places without wearing one. I recall video of a person getting yelled at to get out of a market.

This is ridiculous overstretch of what needs to occur. I went in to try for a haircut today. The poor stylist is being forced to wear a god-awful mask made of cloth while she cuts hair. The other day, she says she felt so poorly she had to call for a ride home. Thankfully she got home fine.

Think back, way back to sitting in basic human physiology class trying to stay awake. What was it that keep you from falling out of your seat? Oxygen. or the lack of it. You see, carbon dioxide levels are what our body uses to sense when to breath, and sometimes how much. If you didn’t have the right level of this gas you would stop breathing. Too much, and it displaces the oxygen that DOES keep you alive.

So what does this have to do with a covid mask? Imagine breathing into and out of a mask for a full day’s work? Are you getting an adequate amount of oxygen for the amount of carbon dioxide you are releasing back into the atmosphere? Maybe, or maybe not. Oxygen is being displaced by the excess carbon dioxide your body is trying to get rid of during work, so sounds to me like this could be the case.

But Steve, what makes you an expert on this? I am not. I am just a fellow that reads, and has a mind that wanders. There recently was a case of a man driving headlong into an immovable object and dying. He was wearing a mask. That story has been hushed, no study, no autopsy report. No one else in the car with him. What or who was he protecting? What were his blood gases?

Not to mention folks with lung disease, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and I could go on. How safe is it for these folks to be wearing masks “to protect others” or yourself from the virus? Better question is; how safe is it to have thousands of folks out an about driving, performing tasks for us all with lowered oxygen levels in their bloodstreams and high carbon dioxide?

I don’t know, ask the dinosaurs.
